Hawaii Photos 2008

When I first get off the plane in Honolulu, things seem extra bright and green, partly because I've been living in the Southwest desert, and partly from the sensory deprivation of a five hour airplane ride.

My relatives took me up to the Contemporary Museum in Makiki, which had a good Richard Misrach show ("On the Beach"), but to me the attraction of the place has always been the house and spectacular garden.

Most of my trip I spent in Hilo, where my folks have a much smaller garden but enjoyably tropical nonetheless.

My mom's Kobudo Taiko group performed at Kalakaua Park for Chinese New Year's. The day was voggy but we got a good crowd anyway.
